Just bought a new system & need to install a good Antispyware & Firewall.

How good are ewido antispyware & Zone alarm pro ?

I have installed NOD32 + Windows firewall + Windows Defender.

    Any suggestions ?

AVG antivirus free edition is a very popular choice and updates regularly.
    As is Avast home edition!

Popular choices for firewalls include Kerio personal firewall and ZA free edition.

These should allow you more control and superior protection to windows XP SP2 firewall.

Remember to only run one antivirus and one firewall in conjunction to avoid any conflict issues, and uninstall old before installing new!!

    Good luck...

NOD32 is fine, no need to change that.

Windows firewall has a major weakness; it only blocks incoming traffic. That means that if a Trojan does manage to get in, it will be able to download spyware on to your machine. Best to replace it. Many users say Zone Alarm has gone downhill, maybe you should try out the free version before you invest in Pro. I would do a lot more research before I'd spend money on it, there are plenty of other choices available.

Windows Defender provides good real-time protection against spyware. I do recommend the free version of Ewido as a backup scanner, but don't try to run the Ewido Shield and Windows Defender's Real-time protection at the same time, it will really slow down your computer.

Thanks, thisisu, I should have included those (I realized later).

I'd like to emphasize one point that's mentioned in both those threads:don't use Internet Explorer, get a better browser. Firefox is my pick, but Opera or K-Meleon are good, too. Just don't use anything based on IE. Some browsers, like Avant and Maxthon, are just IE shells. They add more functions, but they have the same vulnerabilities as IE.

Two free ones I use are Comodo firewall and AVAST antivir. Good stuff, and did I mention, FREE?

I use AVG myself, but if you've already paid for NOD32 you might as well stay with it for now. If you just have the free demo, AVG and Avast are both good, and free. I'd consider switching when NOD32 expires.
