I'd rather this be more nutrition/well being thread rather than everyone just post 'I had pancakes mmmmm' :-D

So I've been experimenting recently with eating breakfast something I rarely do,I usually wake up turn on the coffee machine have a brew and that's it for 3-4 hours but lately I have been feeling rough and when I finally do become hungry and eat its more of a sick hunger,I also don't have any of the energy I used to have as a kid when I ate breakfast 'even sugar filled cereal'

So I been making sure the minute after I awake I eat some long chain carbohydrate's which my body can break down slowly over the day to provide energy. These high spec LCC's consist of an apple,a tangerine and most importantly a banana:-D and only then do I have my morning coffee.

I have to say even though it's too early to tell I do feel much better over the past week, surprisingly better in fact and its something I'm gonna keep up.

I'd like to know what you guys recommend for breakfast, what enables you to perform the best throughout the day and most importantly what makes you feel the best.

I have tried eating breakfast throughout my adult life as often as I can be bothered and I haven't noticed any benefit this is what I find strange about this but its only now when eating fruit have I noticed any benefit.

O.K so now I'm a believer in breakfast,is there anything better to eat than fruit:confused I've tried all sorts, most make me feel heavy and laid down, porridge, toast, sandwiches ect. ect.

Today being Sunday, my wife will cook sausage and eggs etc. Sometimes omelette which I don't care for much (I don't complain, I just eat). Every other day it's cereal, usually Shreddies. The Shreddies need about fiveminutes in the milk and sugar to "age", then they're the right slightly soggy texture for devouring.

I voted for a mix, I make a soy milk smoothie with whatever berries are in season(frozen otherwise) plus a well ripened banana for sweetness, no added sugar. Then either a slice or two of my homemade bread slathered with butter and half fat cheese or fry up some homemade sausage patties, same bread and a couple of eggs.

There's a reason why it's called 'break fast' as one doesn't eat between supper and morning and if you don't have breakfast, then by lunchtime you'll probably overeat as you're ravenous and then sit back feeling all tired. We need the energy that your LCC's plus protein and fat to start one's day and keep one going throughout. I found that the biggest culprit was eating a late supper and go to sleep when one doesn't need all that energy and wake up not hungry and skipping breakfast, being overweight starts this way.

I can only select one item in the poll so I selected mixed.

Whenever possible, whatever fruit is in season chopped up to make a fruit salad then pour on some muesli (usually homemade and raw not toasted) then smother with plain thick yoghurt.
Mix it all up and let it sit for a few minutes while I make coffee so the yoghurt gets the fruit taste and the dry muesli softens.
Add a bit more yoghurt if it looks too dry, eat it up big. Yummy

Intellectually, I know that eating a balanced breakfast is healthier for you, and will actually help with weight loss. In practicality, however, if I try to eat anything less than two hours after I get out of bed (and often three or more), it's going to come right back.

I vote for "just a drink", because sometimes even that is too much first thing in the morning. LOL

    I voted mixed.

This morning I had some water melon, two pieces of toast, (one with peanut-
butter one with just butter) and a small cup of milk to wash down the
    morning meds. ;)

After re-reading the OP I realized I did exactly what Rikky didn't want, so I'll elaborate.
The cooked breakfast on Sunday is because we usually go out hiking or 4X4ing. The big breakfast can keep you going untill evening. The other days cereal is good and light for work, when I know at 12:00 noon we stop for lunch.
And I have to feed my addiction every morning...coffee.

Thanks for the reply's peeps, negative experiences are also very welcome, how do you feel if you don't have breakfast?

Meat and eggs such as bacon really satisfy me in the morning but then I don't feel like moving much, one thing I've also tried is beans on toast, this worked almost good as fruit giving me energy all day.

Does anyone take vitamins or supplements in the morning to feel better? I tried B6 once to give me more energy and I didn't notice much of anything.

I've also noticed having breakfast I don't take as much caffeinated drinks to pep me up.

@Tibbs you throw up if you have breakfast?:-D That only happens to me if i have vodka for supper...

If I try to eat within the first two hours, absolutely. It's been that way since I was about 12. :confused

If I have vodka for supper I tend to eat before I go to bed, so that works out OK. LOL

Agreed. I know it's healthy to eat breakfast and I voted 'fruit', but really I just have no appetite in the morning and it can actually make me feel sick.

    Mine is just coffee.

Unless I'm playing golf...then I eat a banana, which is why I picked fruit.

Porridge with fruit on it is a VERY good start to the day, healthy, filling and will keep you going until lunch time. Yes I know I sound like a commercial :-D

If you are feeling naughty you could substitute fruit for golden syrup :drool

Porridge being oatmeal here is a favorite but I'm too lazy to make it. I've never tried it with syrup of any kind. I make it syrupy with brown sugar.
