Pardon my Brit-ignorance, but what is "the Flying squad"?

The Flying Squad is a branch of London's Metropolitan Police force. It was formed in 1919 as the "Mobile Patrol Experiment", a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in response to a crime wave that followed the end of World War I. Its officers were originally nicknamed the "thief takers". It consists of police officers trained in high-speed driving, whose task is to detect and prevent armed robbery and similar crimes. The name reflects the fact that the officers operate across the boundaries of London's police divisions. In 1978 it was renamed the "Central Robbery Squad". Its most popular nicknames are "the Sweeney" (Cockney rhyming slang for "Sweeney Todd"/"Flying Squad") and "The Heavy Mob".

I got a question, is this really a most wanted list? Because some crimes are stupid - for example theft of a camera...or "paying for fuel with a stolen card" and such... It seems that they go all the way from atempted murder to stealing something petty, lets go over and fill that list up! ;)

Its a very new concept and only been running this week, Yes its for real and reflects alot of the true crimes in the UK , but I'd imagine those listed will change over time... we are only a small country so many murders etc are pretty low as a crime %, lessened to a degree by the fact we are not a gun owning nation, so if you want to murder someone you gotta get deep down and dirty face to face 90% of the time.

Well, all the other links in that section don't work (someone doesn't know how to use the ASP Classic XML object... :p ).

Interesting idea. Not sure it's a great idea, but who knows.
