broken laptop monitor

    The monitor on my Dell Inspiron is broken and too expensive right now to replace so I have been using it with an external monitor. It is running Windows 2000 and I tried to upgrade it to XP. However, once starting the upgrade, the laptop is defaulting to the internal monitor and the external monitor is blank and I can't get any further with the upgrade. Is there a way to make the laptop default to the external monitor or am I stuck?

    well, unless you can think of a way to acess the display settings completely blind. But I've tried before, it's not easy! :rolleyes:

    How did you change to the external monitor before?
