brothers printer not printing naything

i am using a bothers mfc-495-cw and i have recently ran out of ink but i don't have the color ink but then again i don't need the color ink at all anyway. all the stuff i print doesn't have any color but whenever i print something the page comes out blank. after i have plenty of black ink so there is not need for any other color ink. i thought it was the drivers and software on my vomputer but i tried a test print by faxing a document and still not text on the paper. the printer says that my black ink supply is already decreasing (the black bar has gotten smaller after doing all of this which doesn't make sense. why does the ink run out after it doesn't print anything

i am using blue paper because its all i got at the moment, text is always visible on blue paper from an office paper. whats going on here is there like a special setting in the printer or how do i reset the settings. thanks for the help
