Awesome love the blog.

 

No more updates. I no longer work there for fresh material. Which is a good thing, I honestly believe the job was shaving years off my life. I mean, I could rant bout my college profs, but I don't want to make a blog for curing insomnia

 

Yes i totally agree, it does shave years off your life to work in tech support.

 

Working with EUs wasn't too bad, but I spent 75% of my time there (about 4 years), working with techs and their problems. I came to be a very bitter, condescending jerk. I blame the India techs. It had nothing to do with race, location, or anything like that. Instead it had to do with the fact that everything from them had to be scripted, and they lacked the ability to think outside the box to fix a problem, which is a serious handicap when doing tech support. In addition, if they didn't know an answer, instead of saying "I don't know", they would blatantly lie. Then, if they didn't like your solution, they would argue with you about it.

I guess I missed the memo which said, when you call a mentor for help on your tech support call, make sure you lie to them and argue to make their job difficult and stressful.

I know its probably hard for many people to relate. Its one of those, you had to be there, things.

I left that company with respect for one India tech out of hundreds. One. He is still on my Messenger list, and has since moved to a better company.

 

I left some real ringers out, due to the fact my blog circulated work regularly, and I didn't want to get fired.

Here is a recount of one episode I had with an India tech that I posted here some time ago.

India tech calls me. Her customer cannot print. They have gone round and round, tried different drivers, etc.

So I asked, "Does the printer show in Printers and Faxes?"

Tech: "No."

"What happens when you unplug the printer from the USB port and plug it back in?"

Tech: "Nothing."

Me: "Is the printer on?"

Tech: "No."

"Well, the printer has to be on to print!"

Tech: "But the customer has already tried that!"


I'll never understand why a tech would try an electronic device in an off position.

I wish I could find the thread in the archives here, but it was a good 2 or so years ago.

I had a Wordpress blog version of the above, that my host decided to delete due to inactivity. Naturally, me being the technical genius I am rolleyes: ), I didn't back it up.
