Hello lovely MG helpers. It's been a while. Thankfully my old girl is clean, however, I'm back with problems with my in-law's computer. These wonderful folks are in their early 80's and I'm at my wits end....not sure who to pin the problems on - the MIL who is very interested in puters but also quite naive, or the FIL who is borderline Alzheimer's...

Anyways. They've been having serious pop up ad issues on Firefox. I removed something with "scorpion" in the name straight from the Add/Remove around New Years in a quick fix attempt during a family gathering.

The ads continued and the other day, after some housecleaning, I ran MalwareBytes (i know - i'm sorry! out of order!!) after the MIL called their ISP and they recommended it. And, I was in a hurry.

Ads came back. Today I did some browser and DNS flushing but didn't go any further with your redirection instructions from this link. I just figured while I was there I might as well do the full clean, so I did! Things "seem" pretty clean.....but, I'll let you all be the judge.

Please check my logs. There are 2 MWB logs because I'm including the first one I did the other day that actually came up with stuff.

Thank you for your help! :)

(ps...for some reason my Hitman log is saying it is too large...I will try to zip it or something and attach it to the next post! THANKS!!!!)

Re run Hitman and have it remove Potential Unwanted Programs.

    C:\Program Files\Level Quality Watcher <<< Delete this.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

If you are still experiencing issues with Firefox after that let me know! :)

    Hello Kestrel,

Thanks for the response. I ran hitman, removed stuff and then deleted that folder as you advised. Attached is the new MG log.

A quick surf seemed clean. However, I did not restart the computer, so I don't know if that would make it crop back up...

Do restart the computer then if you haven't already. Then let me know how things are running. :)

Yes, sorry about that I was in a hurry to get home and get ready for work!

The computer has been restarted now and the MIL reports that so far she hasn't gotten any pop-ups! :)

Let me know what I need to do to finish up! Thanks Kestrel!

    You're most welcome! :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
