Browser problem with BOTH IE6 & FF1.5...

When I try to access my online photo album from my newer PC with either IE6 or FF1.5, on several of the index pages (always the same index pages) only the first thumbnail and its link to the subsequent page does not load with the balance of the page. After hooking my old PC up to my I-net connection or trying to access the album from a friend's PC at another location, everything loads as it should.

Apparently the fault is with my newer PC. What is weird to me is that BOTH IE6 and FF1.5 are making the same faulty loading of the pages.

I'm down to the point of considering a clean reinstall of the OS to fix the problem. Anyone have any idea of what is going wrong here?

One other thing that may relate to this is that I cannot r-click to do a copy, then start MS Word to past it in. The 'copy' is lost when Word starts up. I can only do a 'copy and paste' to Word if Word is already up and running.

They do not seem to be related problems to me, but then...???

OK. You could try these. At least you will know if it has anything to do with IE.

    Try this to repair IE
    Start/Run/regsvr32 urlmon.dll

    OR

    To reinstall IE
    Start/run/rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

    OR

    Microsoft

XP pro, sp2? All windows updates?

    Just curious. :)

OK, I've tried the first two [start/run] suggestions. No change in the problem. I'll give the third one a try in the next few days.

SP2 is installed. Plus, I've done most of the updates contained in the January Auto Patcher XP. I did skip a few of the updates that were not aplicable to my insatllation. I do have MS Auto Updates turned off. I have not done any updates since about January.

McAffy v10 is my AV and is current.

I run ZAP v6.0.667 as my firewall.

OK, I finally got the time to play with this a bit. After looking around, It seemed that the way to reinstall IE6 was to reinstall SP2. I have done that and have installed the newest Auto Patcher [May '06]. Plus I've done a major clean-up of the OS partition.

WOW! I should have done that sooner. Everything runs much smoother and quicker. BUT, It had no effect on the problem behind this thread, web pages not loading images and other things fully. I've also noted that images on some other web sites are not loading. They do when I access them from my old PC on this connection. Plus, after downloading my web album to my HDD everything works as it should when accessing it with both IE6 and FF1.5. The problem seems to be only when accessing it online.
Is there any kind of setting in WinXP Pro that would block images and other things from downloading in both IE & FF when making a connection with a web site but have no effect when accessing something on the HDD?

This thing is driving me nuts!!! As much as I'd hate to, I'm getting close to seriously considering doing an OS clean install.

    Thx

    You could try IE Fix.

Have you slipstreamed XP & SP2? You will need the SP2 files.........again.

OK, I've tried IEFix. Yes I do have SP2 slipstreamed onto my installation disc.
No luck with it! The problem is still there.

Just incase it may indicate what is the problem is, here are the problem areas of the Page Sources copied from the two pages to compare with each other. the bold lines are where they differ. The red portion is what is missing from the on-line web page. The copy on my HDD was D/l'd from the website < 5 min before openinng the page it is being compared to. I admit that I'm grasping at straws now. Any ideas as to what the problem(s) may be???

    PS to my prior post.

The other web sites that also seem to have the same problem loading images also seem to have links assoiciated with the images.

Maybe the problem is due to the associated links???

Are the pictures showing up as white boxes with red x's in them?

If so, in FF go to Tools > Options > Content > and uncheck (under Load Images) "For the Originating Web Site Only".

Also, do these websites require JavaScript? Are you running the latest version 5...?

PS...I'm not sure that I understand your problem exactly so the above may or may not apply.

No. There is[are] no box with the red X.
On my web album it is obvious the image is missing because the table[?] it sits on and the borders around it are there along with the image's text lable underneath where it should be.

It was not and is not checked.

I'm not sure as to the version of Java I have, but it has been installed and/or updated with in the last 2 or 3 months.

As far as the other web sites go, if you didn't know there was an image there, you wouldn't know there should be.
    Thx

OK!!! I've found the problem with some help from someone else.
This was the answer to my restating the question in a more orderly fashion:

Firefox doesn't use IE's rendering engine. And I think that if you install Opera (or any other browser) it is going to do the same. Looks like you have some security application which screws up html code to "protect" you, probably thinking that images with links are dangerous. Or maybe it's broken.

If you are not behind a proxy then you can verify this by entering the command below into a command prompt window. Normally it fails to connect to a.root-servers.net on port 80 because a.root-servers.net is not a web server. If it connects and you see a blank window then you have some web-filtering thing running in background. Some firewalls do this, maybe you can disable the "feature".

    C:\>telnet a.root-servers.net 80
Connecting To a.root-servers.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 80: Connect failed

I tried that and got that response. Then, I checked ZAP's settings. Ad Blocking had been changed to "High". I reset it back to "Medium". The problem is gone now.
Thx for trying to help with this.
