Browser Redirect after following cleaning instructions

    First let me start with THANK YOU SO MUCH because after following your detailed list of how to clean my computer, most of the problems I was having have been eliminated and apparently there was a lot of junk on my computer.

    I am still having occasional redirect of my Firefox browser. A second tab opens up by itself and contains what look to be links of things I have recently searched for (though they are not, as revealed by mouse over) ; the latest one had the URL of ht tp://w ww.ave 99.co m/ with the search terms I had recently used following it.

    I'm attaching logs as requested. Please advise.

    While I await your GMER log, let's do this:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    RenV::

    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Reboot and download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

    You may need to uninstall these:
    Quicktime
    Spybot
    yahoo
    McAfee
    iTunes
    Adobe

    Then run CCLeaner and after a reboot, reinstall them.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * GMER log
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    I've had 4 failed attempts at GMER; it seems to go for about 40 minutes fine then suddenly a blue screen and a reboot, existing partial log is lost. This is with all other applications closed.

    The fixes aren't working completely because you still have TeaTimer running!!
    Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer --> Should have been done as per the R&R instructions!

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

    Okay,

    Followed above instructions, logs attached. Spybot recommended immunization after installation and updates but I didn't do it yet, waiting for further instruction.

    I haven't noticed any redirects in the few minutes since. Browser seems a little slow loading pages... no cache so to be expected?

    You still have TeaTimer running and it is blocking some of the fixes!!

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jean\Local Settings\Temp\mca236.tmp

    I did shut tea timer down as you told me to, and when I reinstalled Spybot afterwards I unchecked the box to run it.

    Are the new directions to shut down tea timer first or do I need to try to do that again before I start?

    Looks good!!

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    THANK YOU SO MUCH, I think it has worked. I haven't had any more redirects and have worked my way through the Malware Prevention steps.
