    Hi,
I loaded a game off of the web and in a fit of misjudgement, said yes to all its Q&A to proceed, resulting in a browser misdirection. I am being bounced from Yahoo to:

    search.us.com/?guid={4B8C1844-0369-4335-913D-F04B7B90C50A}&serpv=1

I have performed the tasks in the read me first forum to no avail. Logs below.

I am also having a continual popup window when I open a new window, it is more of an annoyance than anything. It just opens a new browser window to some odd website. Unless it is some new form of advertising used by the boneheads of the industry.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    thank you, Jeremiah Weed2012

Can you run RogueKiller as requested please and attach the log for it, or if you already did run it, again, attach log.

    Also run this:

http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode

    Please disable Spybot's TeaTimer.

    How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Rerun Hitman and have it delete Malware remnants and Potential Unwanted Programs

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.search.us.com?guid={4B8C1844-0369-4335-913D-F04B7B90C50A}&serpv=1
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Browser still redirecting?

I did as you requested, Browser seems to be ok now. However I did not see the 2 reg. entries to be deleted by HJT.
Question: why did I set my startup back to a normal status? Had I disabled something that needed to be abled? I wonder why that was.

    Thank you for your help.:)

Because anything OTHER than normal start up is primarily used for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes. If you wish to control start ups, you should use third party software. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
