Browserprotect Malware

    Hello I'm new here :)

    about a few days ago i randomly got a blue-screen while browsing on chrome. It took me ages to start my computer up again, and once i did, everything got really slow, and progressively got worse as i used it, i continually got blue screens whenever i opened more then one thing at a time, and after a while all the browsers i had became so slow that i couldn't use the internet anymore, I also wasn't able to boot in safe mode anymore.

    I had to use the Os on my motherboard "express gate" to access the internet, and download the tools needed to conduct the scans, unto a Flashdrive. and then install them on windows when i restarted.

    Ive done everything in the malware removal guide and cleaning procedures.

    I ran all the tools and did all the scans. a few of them found trojans, a "browserprotect" kept popping up repeatedly.

    i should mention that when using rogue killer, i scanned the computer 4 times, and i had deleted "browserprotect" and some other stuff when it came up, im sorry, i only realized that i wasn't supposed to do that afterwards, although, deleting the Trojan fixed my speed issue, and i am able to browse again. i have attached the log for the first scan.

    You have both Avast and Kaspersky AntiVirus programs installed. You must NEVER install more than one. Uninstall one of these immediately before continuing with the below.

    It appears that you are a toolbar/junk collector. ;) It may take a few iterations to cleanup all the junk. As you will see this fix is quite large.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    Nopw uninstall the below programs:
    AccmeWare Toolbar
    Delta toolbar
    Java 7 Update 9
    Java(TM) 6 Update 29
    uTorrentControl2 Toolbar
    Windows Searchqu Toolbar

    Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment



    Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
    • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
    • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
    • Click on Delete.
    • Confirm each time with Ok.
    • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
    • You can just close it. Attach the below log file:
      • C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt
    What is this RescueTime program you have installed? If you do not know then uninstall it.



    Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
    Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
    saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
    this log file to your next message.




    Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).


    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Hey again!

    i tried to do everything as best as you instructed me.

    i wasnt aware i even had kespersky on my computer, i wasnt even using it. i tried to uninstall it, but the installer keeps encountering an error midway through the process, so i just uninstalled avast instead.

    also i uninstalled all the toolbars as instructed, except for the u torrent one,i tried to delete it several times, but the installer just doesn't start up.

    everything else went fine, although some errors did pop up while scanning. i have attached the logs.

    as for the rescuetime thing. it is a program that tracks my weekly internet usage so i can know what i spend most of my time on. its useful for productivity.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    Okay then it is more than likely broken and it was an old outdated version anyway. See if you can get it cleaned up using the below tool:

    Alright, i have deleted those things you have asked for.

    i have also managed to uninstall kepersky, all i did was restart the computer and the installer worked fine.

    i think the computer is much more useable now then before, but still crashes every few minutes, especially when browsing, i also still get blue screens every now and then, and some programs have stopped working.

    Okay well these may be more of an issue to work in the Software Forum; however let's run the below first.

    Click Start, Run, and enter sfc /scannow and click OK. There is a space after the sfc. This runs System File Checker which looks for missing or corrupted system files and attempts to replace/repair them from files on your hard disk or from the CD if necessary. So it will ask for the Windows CD if it needs it.


    Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

    Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

    It seems i Cannot open "sfc /scannow" file. when i click on it from the start tab, it opens up and then closes again really quickly, before i can do anything. running it as administrator doesn't fix the problem.

    It seems that UAC got turned on all by it self somehow, im very sure i turned it off when i read the removal guide, ive tried several times to shut it off again, but the control panel wont let me reach the controls.

    im also unable to download windows repair, when downloading it through firefox i get an error "blocked by your security zone policy" this happens with any download i make not just this one. opera doesn't work anymore, chrome is unable to surf the web the tabs just load on forever, and internet explorer seems to be missing.

    my computer is pretty messed up :cry

    ok, after messing around with firefox a bit, i managed to download windows repair. and i ran it successfully, after the restart some programs started working again though not all, and im now able to turn off UAC and use the control panel.

    However the "sfc /scannow" file still doesn't work. the computer still freezes every now and then but seems to be in better shape.

    I think you will have to continue with these issue in the Software Forum as they appear to be more of a Windows problem not malware.

    However sfc you can possibly try running from a comman prompt window first. Just click Start, and in the search box type cmd. You should see the black command prompt icon ( cmd.exe ) appear in the top area. Right click it and select Run As Administrator to open the command prompt as administrator. Then type the sfc /scannow command into the command prompt window to see if it will run.

    Alright I was able to run the scan.

    then i got a "verification is 100% complete" and a "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

    is there a way to stop the blue screens? its very frustrating having to restart the computer every 30min or so. it seems that it gets triggered by certain things, like when ever i start a youtube video my computer starts freezing, and if i dont stop the video i get a bluescreen. it also happens when i use chrome.

    As stated previously, this is a topic for the Software Forum. You will have to provide them with the error codes. Also you will have to be much more specific than saying "some programs" are having problems. You will have to say exactly which programs and exactly what happens. If the programs you are having issues with are things you can uninstall and then reinstall, it may be worth trying.


    But if you wish, we can run a few additional scans to see if anything else is uncovered.
