Browsers Crashing

(I did a search of this forum - there are just too many machine/software configurations to help me with this problem in prior threads).
    Windows7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 running on Toshiba Intel i5 RAM 3.8GB
Problem: FF and Chrome become 'Not Responding' after awhile, with every use, whether running one-at-a-time or both together, even if only one tab open.
Tried: Virus scan (360 Total Security - now have Avast free), then Super Antispyware, then CCleaner, then Tweaking.com (free) (followed all the steps and left all the checked boxes) and multiple iterations thereof. Un- and reinstalled Chrome recently (not initiating). Finally used 120 day old restore point (successfully). Problem still persists.

Sometimes browser problems can be fixed by deleting your cache and temp files. Since there are 2 affected, I'd guess that may be why.

That would be the answer if it were just the browsers.
Shame on me - try to be brief and not giving the whole story.
The whole thing is running slower than it did a year ago. I don't use much besides the browsers but a few other things have gotten a bad startup latency when double clicked: adobe acrobat reader, super antispyware (takes about 2 minutes). MS Office seems normal.
CCleaner cleans out the browsers (and I do it manually) but nothing helps until I cold boot or crash the computer and restart (FF just nonresponded and resolved while I was writing this).
After a nonresponse, chrome just won't open again at all until I cold reboot.
I get occasional mandatory chkdisk startups but I have never gotten a bad sector result.

Please tell us more about your computer. We know it's a Toshiba but what's the model number and age? Please download and run Speccy. http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/get/speccy,1.html. This will help us see what you have. When you run it, click on File/Publish Snapshot/ then it'll give you an URL to paste here.

Most likely it's adobe doing this issue. If you are trying to run videos if adobe or flash player. They both take a toll on both chrome and firefox.Let's try this Go to Tools/Than Add-on's/Than Plugins. While in plugins disable any thing that has to deal with flash player or adobe than only use OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.This should help with the problem.

Like So with the picture below.

    Capture.PNG

    Than defrag your system.

The Toshiba is model E205-S1904, about 6 yr. old.

Also, this morning when cold booting, it took 12 minutes to shut down After the background routines were closed (not unusual), then upon startup I got a blue screen "Driver Power State Dailure". This has not happened before. I am appending the error log from that, also.

    Thanks, soviano.
@Geek_Justin:Went to the Toshiba support site and worked my way down the list. Summary:
As expected, BIOS 1.1 and 1.2 gave the message "The version of ROM file isn't newer..." while the BIOS version 1.3 gave the message "The version of ROM file is the same..." so no update was done. Also, of the 3 methods of installing BIOS, the CD-ROM pathway gives an error message, so have to use the 'Insyde Windows' path. If the BIOS is 2010, I am not sure I can change it, if it needs updating.
Updated the drivers section and about 1/2 of them took. nVIDIA never completed for audio or video.
Have to continue to work on the network settings and I am passing on the apps for now - most are Toshiba Service Station.

  9. What is your capacity used/free space ratio and RAM size? Being older and assuming you haven't done any hardware upgrades this could also be another factor to consider.
Have you ever done a defrag before? I prefer a 3rd party defrag program but its all preference. This is my go to defrag program. Smart Defrag

Also on the front of the browser attachment I have always set my add-ons e.g. flash player to "Ask to Activate" so that when having multiple tabs open it isn't running continuously in the background without your permission.

Uh...DVD drive used to not work (computer recognized drive - drive did not recognize DVD). Then running Tweaking for the first time fixed that. Now DVD drive does not work again, and Tweaking does not fix it. Device Manager calls it a GA10F and says that it is working. Toshiba website was designed by a sadist: (A.click on Troublshooter and it asks for device. B.click on device and it gives you four choices, one of which is Troubleshooter.Loop back to A). Any suggestions?

I would also run an elevated command prompt as admin. And run these two options:

    SFC /scannow

    And

    Chkdsk /F

And also clear out your Temp Folder every once in a while.

Thanx wile for the good advice.
Did chkdsk and sfc from admin acct. Also redid tweaking. DVD drive still not recognizing DVD. Just played two feature-length DVDs without any interruption before restoring, so pattern is not a dirty lens. I am buying a another cleaner kit (sold mine), anyway. While I wait for it to come, anything else I can do? If it were a mechanical drive problem, one would suspect that there would be stuttering interruptions in the performance, not just a cold refusal to start not recognizing a disk all of a sudden.

Geek_Justin, wile e coyote, humble servant, everyone who helped me:
I owe you all a follow up:
    First, thank you.

After doing everything every one told me (and erasing the well-known Windows registry problem for DVD [after backup!]: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} delete 'UpperFilters' delete 'LowerFilters'), the DVD still did not recognize the disk. Then, I started the Toshiba DVD Player program and assigned it to the DVD (D:/) drive, put in the disk and it worked! But only that once and not again.

Then, I sat the laptop on its side with the slot-entry DVD drive facing up. I put in the disk and it worked. Several times now.

So, I was wrong. It turned out to be a hardware problem. Not worth the cost of fixing or replacing. If I ever need to reinstall a 'legacy' program or (knock on wood) restore the BIOS, I will just turn the #$%^& thing on its side. It only has to last me six more months. We will make it.

    Thank you again.

I too own a LiteOn portable DVD burner. I've had it for 9 or 10 years. With 3 netbooks in the house without optical drives and had a very old All-in-One computer that only had a CD-ROM, I needed something.

If you purchase a portable DVD burner, make sure it has either a Y USB connector which will use 2 USB ports or one that has its own power supply. One USB port doesn't supply enough power for burning.
