    Hello,
I'll get to the point. I was surfing the net about 2 days ago and all of a sudden Google Chrome stopped responding. It didn't crash as such it just didnt' respond to a typed address or a bookmark. I restarted my pc and from that moment I havn't been able to start up any browsers. When clicking the .exe (ive tried the shortcut and the .exe) it just does nothing....litterally. So I uninstalled all my browsers and reinstalled...same thing. Ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware which picked up 2 nasties. Unfortunatly I didn't save the log as I thought at this point I had solved my problem but I remember they were a Broken.OpenCommand type in the report. They were supposedly removed succesfully but alas the problem remains. I have meticulously followed the "read this first" post in this section of the forum ( please fine logs attached ) which turned up 0 nasties....not one. This followed by a boot time scan with Avast Antivirus still nothing. I found some post with a problem similar to mine and it suggested running the following 2 commands, which I have:

    netsh winsock reset catalog
    netsh int ip reset log

Still no change......my frustration and non-understanding of this topic is only highened by the fact that IE6 works perfectly once IE8 has been uninstalled...but chrome or Firefox won't while IE6 is running perfectly.
I am thinking at this point that I've caught a virus/malware/nasty that has changed something in registry or some such...perhaps I've caught the virus but whatever the virus has changed hasn't been changed back to the way it was before.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm quite confident in finding/editing registry and consider myself a confident user. Usually I have solve these types of issues and if I can't i just do a fresh install but in this circumstance I cannot due to my partners work...ect ect..

    Thanks for your time
    GNZ

Your logs are clean. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance. You can now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    E:\Documents and Settings\Dylan\My Documents\Downloads\MGtools.exe
    E:\Documents and Settings\Dylan\Local Settings\temp\RAR$EX00.141

Then take ComboFix out of the e:\documents and settings\Dylan\My Documents\Downloads\ folder and put it directly on your desktop so that the following instructions will work:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks for your swift reply, I have since solved the issue.
Turns out it was a program "Ioio System Mechanic" (and associated software ). I have used this program before with no issues but have since been informed that in certain circumstances this program can deny access to registry. I have no idea how/why this would effect only my browsers or why it effected programs already installed. But after unintall of "System mechanic" everything returned to normal.
    Thanks again
