Browsers stop connecting

I have a recently moved and gotten a cable modem. I get all excited for i have the net again, and after awhile(not always after standby) my browsers stop connecting(IE, Opera, and FF) my IM's, and software updates still work. .odd. .I did read something about the winamp tool bar and FF. .I did install it, but now FF wont open at all. it was said to open ff in safe mode to remove the extension, but it wont even open in safe mode. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it.
I have looked around for similer issues and have found that (other than the winamp one) most are wireless related.
a few cable splice issuse's( tho mine is similer,not quite)
I have ran many scans for malware and virus's, but found nothing. .

internet browsers stop connecting after a few min of use,after closing or after standby
any assistance would be appriciated,

I have been having a similar problem. I just got my father a new computer and installed XP on it as trying to teach him a new OS at 71 is pointless. Every thing was going fine got it installed and started installing the other software he uses, from my server. I was using wsFTP for that and it was downloading from the server fine, but all of a sudden IE and Outlook Express stopped connecting to the internet, and the only way to reconnect is to restart the system. So the connection was still there I'm guessing it has to be a problem with IE and Outlook Express.

Any suggestions??
