Browses (Firefox and IE) not working

I have a Dell Dimension running Windows XP. Currently the CMOS battery needs to be replaced (which I am working on separately). However, suddenly Firefox (3.52) stopped working. When I try to start it, I get a message saying that it has crashed and to send an error report. I tried IE and get the same message. I tried running Firefox off a flash drive and the same thing happens.
I am connected to the internet and can still run email programs.

I am baffled. i don't understand why the battery would have this impact. Any advice?

Right click my computer -> Click Manage -> Expand Event viewer and see what errors are occuring at the time of the FF and IE crashes

Please if there is any errors share them with us so we can do our best to help.

And get that CMOS battery changed!!

 

Hello gloriana11, please try running internet explorer with no add-ons:

For vista users: Click start -> type "internet explorer no addons" (without quotes) and click the first result.

For Xp users: Click start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System tools -> Internet explorer no add-ons.

Note: this only works for the following versions of internet explorer: Internet explorer 7, Internet explorer 8.

Also try running firefox in Safe Mode:

For vista users: Click start -> type "firefox safe mode" (without quotes) Click the first result.

For Xp users: Click start -> all programs -> Mozilla firefox -> Mozilla firefox (Safe Mode) A diologue box like the one below will come up:

Select "Continue In Safe Mode"
