Hello to MajorGeeks! Hope you guys can help me out, I know the help here is really good.. and MAAN I'm getting a BSOD. :( Just wish it would be working lol. Anyways:

Ok guys, just installed new Gigabyte HD7950 Windforce 3. Before I did that, I:

Removed all drivers, everything with CCleaner and DriverSweeper. Removed old GTX 260, installed new card, everything went smoothly and so on.

Computer boots up, I get to the login screen. As soon as it goes into Windows it BSODs. This is what comes up:

" A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent harm to your computer.

An attempt was made to execute to non-executable memory.

If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software, disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode.

    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x000000FC"

So I tried reseating the card, didn't work. It goes into Windows in Safe Mode just fine btw, but with regular/normal mode doesn't. So I don't really understand what is going on. I tried looking into it but there would be too many things that could cause it, so I'm not really sure.. DEP, corrupt drivers, memory. I wish I could just pinpoint what is causing it and then fix it..

    Any help would be appreciated.

What should I do first, do this dump thing and post it here? Maybe I should just do a fresh install of Windows?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

A 0xFC would normally be caused by a 'bad' driver, zip and attach a few of the minidumps, I'll try to work out which one it might be.

Just to bump this topic and hope that satrow responds (it is a bit urgent for me): I am ready to do a clean reinstall of win 7 again, so I don't know what I should currently do.. wait for a response or just start with a clean install. Any help? (Sorry I'm a bit impatient)

Both dumps are pointing the finger of suspicion at the Magic Tune/Port Talk driver:

Other potentially 'bad' drivers are all the a*******.SYS drivers and the rest of the Daemon Tools package.

Okay, thanks for the reply satrow. So that means I should uninstall the MagicTune program that I have and everything with it?

And also I should uninstall Daemon Tools, get the remnant norton sysfile removed using the Norton Removal Tool + what about all these a*****.sys files? How would I remove those (I mean, what are they for anyway?).

    Thank you anyway man!

EDIT: You're a start man!!! :D It worked! I deleted MagicTune Premium and it f'ing worked man! Thank you so much, you saved me a lot of trouble. :)

But I should still delete those other files right? :D I successfully booted up into Windows this time, everything works perfect. :)

    Nice work :)

The a*.SYS drivers are all part of Daemon Tools, you can leave it installed if you like but if you start seeing random BSOD's, it's one of the first suspects to rule out - it can take some doing to fully uninstall it though.

The remnant Norton driver must go - it will be problematic at some stage.

Thank you once more satrow! Absolutely brilliant job man. :D

I was thinking of reinstalling Windows, this time put 64bit to get High res textures in GW2. :D What do you think? This will also remove all old nasty drivers and stuff, so it will be easier that way.

And also, strange.. i ran gpuz, didn't come up with any information about the device, well it did but didn't show that it was a 7950 + rivatuner didn't show that information as well, I installed the latest beta 12.9, so maybe that's the case? Also I didn't install everything that was included in the catalyst suite package (lots of uncesessary transcoders amd sdk development accelerators and what not, tbh I don't even know what exactly to install from there apart from the display drivers, ccc and so on).

    Thanks again man.

You could go drivers only with ATI or nVidia cards, there was a time ~6-12 months ago when we were seeing an increase in crashes that seemed to be related to the non-essential stuff.

The Riva Tuner driver is another that can cause issues on some machines.

With any recent hardware it takes a while for 3rd party software to catch up, if the hardware's being detected as being in the correct 'family', I'd not worry.

As to going to Windows 7 64-bit, there's little I can say against that, except that it requires a little more drive space, uses ~20% more memory and is more finicky when it comes to hardware drivers, especially with USB and WiFi devices and anything that has drivers dated earlier than late 2009. Most virtual drivers can be tricky too but that probably goes for x86 users too.
