    Hello!

Just got the ok from the malware forum. I think i have a software issue. So now I'm here:)

win xp media center sp3, IE 6, Mcafee a/v. PC was running ok. Mcaffe updated and needed to reboot. The PC blue screened with an 0x08e error and an mfehidk.sys error. i disabled mcafee in safe mode and PC was fine.

So i deleted mcafee updated everything IE8, java, etc...then reinstalled mcafee. BSOD again. Ran sysrestore, old version of mcafee everything ok. Then did SAS, MB anti malware, Cfix...installed Avira antivir and blue screen again. Seems like real time virus scan is crashing my box. I only had 1 a/v installed at a time. FYI, when mcafee updated and crashed...it was a new version. It had some new features like Mcafee online back up, that i didn't have before. When uninstalling mcafee even with the removal tool i couldn't delete the online backup folder....so i don't have any a/v protection at the moment.

    thanx for your time.....CONFUEWZD!

    Hi

What was the full BOSD code and message? this can link to where the issue is?

What other security applications do you have installed, doesnt need to be Antivirus, but antispyware, popup blockers and firewalls?

I'm just a little confused at the above quote of yours, please clarify more, as in the old version running ok, you then installed SAS MBAM and Avira and gained a BSOD, as Avira is an antivirus app so likely will conflict with McAfee hence the BSOD.

If you uninstall all security applications and make sure you run their removal tools as well as CCLeaner and its Cleaner and Registry tool (run the registry one a few times until nothing shows) then only install the latest version of McAfee and see if you get a BSOD, if you do then post the full code and message.

To delete the online backup folder of mcafee try it in safe mode (F8 at boot) or run one of the below tools in normal and/or safe mode.

    1. Pocket Killbox
    2. MoveOnBoot
    3. Unlocker
    4. LockHunter

    Halo,

    1) BSOD full code message: stop: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005,0xba6dfe59,0xba515910,0x00000000)

    Mfehidk.sys- address Ba6dfe59 base at ba6a6000, datestamp 4b2010c6

    2) other security measures installed right now: ccleaner, SAS, MBa/m. Windows firewall and router are my only protection right now. Mcafee was my firewall and A/v.

    3) clarification on BSOD: Mcafee updated to newer version and rebooted with BSOD. Tried to reboot and same thing. I then rebooted in safe mode and disabled mcafee figuring it was the culprit because of the "mfehidk" error. The PC booted and operated fine. So I then downloaded the mcafee removal tool and removed Mcafee and tried to reinsatll from Mcafee web site with no luck. Ran the removal tool again in safe and normal mode. no luck again with reinstall.

Now I'm on the phone with Mcafee. We updated to IE8, cleaned out traces of anything laying around (old files.etc.) Tried reinstall no luck again. An hour later Mcafee techs give up and say call microsoft.

At this point i was a little frustrated. So i ran sysrestore to previous week. Back to IE6. Pc booted fine with old version of mcafee. I downloaded Removal tool again, and uninstalled old version of mcafee. I downloaded SAS and MB and cleaned the pc and updated java. Now i deleted all A/V software and rebooted. Everything is still in operation (no BSOD) I went to Mcafee site and downloaded new version of Mcafee. It actually downloaded this time so i think I'm on the right track. Installed it and rebooted:BSOD again. Uggh!

So now I'm thinking "I'm done with mcafee" I'll try Avira instead. So I did the same routine as above with the downloading of SAS,MB,ccleaner, MCPR. Removed these programs when finished and did an install of avira anti-vir because it has real time virus protection. Installed fine and rebooted to the BSOD.

With this I realized I'm over my head. I did another sysrestore to the same point I restored to earlier. I posted in the malware forum under the same topic. Kes helped me there and cleaned up the pc again. We used, ccleaner, combofix, SAS, MB, root repeel, and made some corrections with HJT. I deleted all but Ccleaner, SAS,MB. I still have the logs if neccessary. I currently have IE6 and updated Java. Kes gave me the all clear and to post in software. So hopefully, no bugs! Not sure whats going on but it seems to be related to real time virus scan, maybe you can shed some light on this.

Sorry for the long post. Just clarifying the situation. I'll wait for your response before continuing with your recommendations in prior post. Thank you Halo. CONFUEWZD
