Well, first time posting so i guess i owe a big thanx to ya'll at MG!
You guys kept me running for quite some time and i appreciate all your work!

Ok, I have win XP media center sp3, IE6, updated java. Pc was running ok. Mcaffe updated and needed to reboot. Bsod upon reboot with an 0x08e error and Mfehidk.sys error

I rebooted in safe mode and disabled mcaffe, Pc then rebooted fine. I ran Mb-antivirus, SAS, and anti vir..combo fix. Updated to IE8..etc. Deleted Mcaffe and reinstalled...still bsod. Tryed antivir..bsod again! Anytime real time virus detection is on the PC crashes.(my assumption)

Ran sysrestore. Ran fine with old Mcaffe. Back at IE6, deleted antivirus and ran suggested fixes. Logs attached. Didn't toggle restore points..I was chicken @#^# haha!

Not sure what the next step is

We do not reccommend doing this until we give you final steps anyway.

Please go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following software:

    • Viewpoint Media Player <--- as requested per the R&R.

Please tell me whether the below directory is empty or not and if it does indeed contain files please tell me what they are without actually cliking them.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

I suspect that I will be sending you to the software forum for further assistance with your anti virus software, however it might be a good idea to use the McAfee removaql tool to be rid of all traces before attempting a new reinstall of it.

Please download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

Run this > Reboot your machine > and Run it again to get rid of remnants of McAfee.

Please answer my question about the contents of the directory I asked about.

    Thanx for your quick response!

    1) Deleted: Veiwpoint Media Player
    2) c:\D+S\rg\local settings\application data\gbaeur is empty. Should i delete this folder?

    3) Disabled a/v and a/s programs. Ran HJT and made corrections.

    4) Downloaded and ran MCPR tool before and again now since these changes.I had the same results each time. CLEANING SUCCESSFUL. Yet folder "mobk"still remains. c:\program files\McaFee online backup. Tried to delete manually without success. Error deleting file or folder. "Cannot delete backup.dll: access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."

    5) Attached mcafee log.

Thank you again for your support!!

    Yes. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

deleted mgtools, combofix, and root repeal. I downloaded avira antivir and rebooted. BSOD again. I use avira ...it's easier to download and delete after the pc crashes. So safe mode again and dumped avira. Still not sure how to remove folder "mcaffe online backup".....thanx CUNFUEWZD!!
