    Hi,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X-301, which takes about 15 minutes to shutdown, and finally gives a Blue Screen of Death.

Below is the minidump analysis. It seems to be caused by ApsX86.sys, which seems to be the ThinkVantage Active Protection System. But I don't know how to resolve this. I have the latest version of the Active Protection System (1.70.0.7).

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi theefool,

    Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I posted on the Lenovo forums too. No response there.

You asked if I tried an earlier driver..
I actually had this problem on an earlier version of the driver. I updated the driver to the latest version, and it did not fix the problem.

My guess is that the problem relates to something different, and I was hoping someone might shed some light on the problem.

I guess I could try to find an even earlier version of the driver from Lenovo.

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Hi theefool, or anyone else..

I've rolled back to the original version of the ApsX86.sys file - the version in the restore partition of the hard drive.

This did not solve the problem. The computer still fails to shut down, and gets a blue screen of death. The minidump is the same, reporting a problem with the (now much older version of) ApsX86.sys.

Any thoughts of how to diagnose / fix this problem?

    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi,

I think that I've tracked down the cause of the problem. It seems that when I plug in an external keyboard, the laptop crashes on shutdown. So it seems that the "ApsX86.sys" driver is not the cause.

I have tried both a Microsoft USB keyboard and a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard, and both cause windows to blue screen with a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) on shutdown.

Installing the Microsoft IntelliType software does not resolve the problem. So I guess that there must be a problem with something more low level. HID driver perhaps?

Any ideas how I can resolve / fix this?

    Thanks,
    Peter

apsx86.sys is part of Lenovo's Think Vantage active protection.

I'd say create a restore point, then uninstall the Think Vantage software. You might also want to use something like Revo Uninstaller to be sure you get all the registry bits and pieces out too.
Reboot and see if the computer behaves.

    Hi Plodr,

Uninstalling Think Vantage active protection has resolved the problem. Thanks for your help.

I had also been having a problem recently with USB devices (keyboard, mouse, USB drives etc) not being recognized without rebooting first. No idea why, but uninstalling active protection fixed that problem too!

    Regards,
    Peter
