Hi - my neighbours PC just started blue-screening last night for no apparent reason... Dell PC thats been working fine. It happened first time when he went into Outlook and AOL - so network/LAN card etc is probably an area worth eliminating / exploring...

the last driver to load during safe mode is Mup.sys - but i think this is just because this is the last driver to load - nothing there...

Safe Mode is the only thing that works - otherwise, it just blue screens during boot up - debugging mode and everything else just bluescreens...

tried some simple first step updating drivers etc but nothing doing...

here is a copy of the minidump after the !analyze -v was executed...

Disappointed at the fact it reports UNKNOWN_MODULE etc - so just about to kick off a memory test - but any other help would be appreciated
    thanks!

    Hi

As it does boot into safe mode then as you mention likely suspect is network drivers so uninstall the ethernet and/or wifi and reinstall the official ones from Dell support for that model PC, as if unified drivers have been installed they may not be correct as the likes of realtek etc make custom chips for the likes of Dell.

Also uninstall any software firewall thats installed as it maybe the culprit.

Also minidumps are a not the easiest to diagnose as you need to really be a microsoft developer on windows systems to work half of them out, so the actual BSOD code is more helpful.

He is a bit screwed on this i think...

I am a MAC user so I don't fully understand all aspects of this, but I have tried to install all of the base drivers from DELL and some of them will not install in Safe Mode.
There are a lot of network adaptors considering there are only 2 network cards (an ethernet/wireless one) i assume they exist cos he's an AOL user...
Anyway - I have reinstalled all of the drivers from the DELL website that I can - most of them were from 2007/early 2008...

but having reinstalled the drivers i can - it still will not boot....

He is ringing DELL in the morning to see what value they can add...

will post reply when we know more
    thanks!
