When I tried to run the CCleaner last night before shutting down, I got a BSOD. I ran the BlueScreenView 1.35 and the logs are attached. By the way, I have received a few memory error messages when shutting down the past couple of months. Unfortunately, I ignored them.....
I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you!

Hi CJ, could you copy the minidump C:\Windows\Minidump\*.dmp to your Desktop then zip and attach it please, it's much more useful than a txt ;)

Which Windows version are you running and what exactly are the errors you see on shutdown?

    Good Afternoon,

Attached is the zipped file you requested....I hope this is right. I am running XP with SP3...it's an old PC. As far as the error that I see when shutting down, I don't know exactly because the error box never stays on the screen long enough for me to copy all the info down.....but, it says something about the memory could not be read. (and gives an identifying number) Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks so much!

aswSP.SYS is blamed, this is the Avast! self protection module. You can try downloading a new Avast! installer, then remove the old version using the uninstall tool before rebooting and reinstalling/updating.

For your error message at shutdown, see if installing this cures it.

Uncheck the memory dumps box in CCleaner too, you don't want to delete them, they're needed here for troubleshooting.

I uninstalled Avast and decided to go with something different so I installed Avira. I also just installed the User Profile Cleanup Service as suggested so I will see how that goes. Now...when I uninstalled Avast and rebooted (before installing Avira), I got a Windows error so I sent it to Microsoft for them to analyze. The error signature is as follows.

    "BCCode: 10000050 BCP1: 92A19A90 BCP2: 00000000 BCP3: 80567BF1 BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SB: 3_0 Product: 256_1"

    Their recommendation follows.

    "Consider BIOS upgrade
Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computer’s random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area the computer uses to run programs and store data.

During the crash analysis, we noticed the basic input/output system (BIOS) version on this computer does not match the specifications for the central processing unit (CPU), also known as a processor, that is installed on your computer. This can occur when a newer processor is installed on an older system board or older BIOS. Using a BIOS that does not support the installed processor can result in Windows system crashes. Contact your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for an updated version of BIOS for your computer's processor."

Ok...this is way out of my league, but I know that my processor has not been messed with. Good grief......one more thing...I don't know if this is related to the problem with the BSOD or not, but some days when I start Internet Explorer, the top menu/toolbar at the top of the page (not the address bar at the very top), is black not gray like it should be. This issue comes and goes...some days gray and some days black. This doesn't appear to affect the function of the Internet, it's just a source of aggravation.

Let me add (before you ask)that I uninstalled Avast with the add/remove function and it appears that it is no longer listed in the program files.

I would greatly appreciate any more suggestions that you can offer. Thanks a bunch!

    CJ

I don't think its a BIOS problem, its probably not a RAM problem, but you'll have to wait for the experts.

Well, that code is exactly the same as the one I debugged earlier, can you zip and attach it please?

Did you use the Avast! uninstall tool after rebooting? It's quite common that security software leaves drivers and other hooks behind after a normal uninstall.

    Satrow,

Dang.....I closed out that error box when I went to install Avira. Does the system keep a log of it somewhere else?

I did not use your uninstall program to remove Avast because I was somewhat afraid I would delete something that I should not have. Could you tell me exactly what to look for (since I have already removed the main component)and I will try it....maybe there are some things still hiding in the background that I (being a novice) don't see. By the way, I had AVG antivirus on this system at one time, but I got rid of it (using add/remove program thing) and got Avast when it did not detect a virus that was causing me problems.

    Thanks for your help!

It should be the most recent file in C:\Windows\Minidump, copy it to the Desktop them zip it and upload the zip.

The Avast! uninstaller is the best way to clear out anything remaining from the normal uninstall, it's a tool specific to Avast!, nothing else should be affected.

I saw no signs of any AVG files loaded in the previous dump.

    Satrow,

There is not a new file in the C:\Windows\Minidump. However, there is a file in C:\Windows\Temp called WGAErrLog that possibly appeared (according to the time stamp) about the time when I got the error box. I have no idea what this file is....but, I bet you know what it is. I did not get another BSOD this time....just the Windows error box where you have the option of closing the box or sending a report to Microsoft (which I did).

Anyway, I will do the Avast cleaner thing shortly since I don't have to pick what gets deleted. I already have it downloaded, so I just need to reboot in safe mode and do it.

    Thanks so much!!!!

I ran the Avast uninstall thing in safe mode and you were right...there was still several components of the program that were not removed with the add/ remove programs. I hope this solves the problem, but I guess I will have to wait and see. I truly appreciate all the help that you have given me. You are performing a great service for all the novices like me! Thanks again!;)
