I've had to breakout my venerable old computer (5+years old) just to see if I can save my less venerable one. I was in the process of preparing to back up my documents when I got a power failure. I got a BSoD but the info about why it was happening would disappear before I could read it. I managed to film it (rolleyes the wonders of modern technology) and I got this -

    Stop: 0 0x000000ED (0x84(orBA it's not a GREAT camera)67FC08, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000)

I have not installed any new hardware or software, nor have I updated anything save the microsoft updates and the antivirus/malware.

I suspect I may be boned but can I at least save some of my data?

I have very little computer/technical flair so I am unsure what other additional info is needed.
    Computer OS : SP3
Processor; 2.67 GHZ Intel Core2 Duo
    HD (I think) WDC WD3200AAKS-00VYA0 320GB
    Circuit Board: 4Core1333-FullHD
I'm not sure what else to put.
I hope you can help me.

    Cheers
    Will

You do not say at what point you get the BSOD. I am guessing that this happens immediately prior to XP booting to the desktop.

    First try this

Puppy Linux is good and will load into ram only.

The above will check if hardware is ok ie if system boots. You may even be able to access the HD via the icon displayed on the Linux Puppy desktop.

Then you could try either of the following in order to remedy software errors [if Puppy worked].

    a) using your XP cd, boot to the recovery console and type chkdsk /r
    or
    b) use Gparted within Puppy Linux and run the check partition command.

You can also try to run the HDD manufacturer's utility to check whether any damage has been caused to the drive by your power outage.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, it's really appreciated.
I'll try these. May take me awhile though.:-o
