Hi, can someone help me please?
    I have a Lenovo Flex 2-14 running W 8.1
It is showing the BSOD saying
"your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.
We're just collecting some error info, then we will restart it for you"

If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error:
    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE__TRAP (ntfs.sys)

It gets up to 100% then tries to boot. 'Lenovo' comes onto the screen with the busy sign of a whirling circle then it goes black again and back to the BSOD.

I have tried to boot into Safe Mode by hitting F8 but it doesn't work.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks, Jan

    Jan Scrivens...

During boot, is the PC getting fully past the BIOS screen, or is the "busy sign" actually during the BIOS screen?

Can't tell from your post exactly how far the boot is getting before the BSOD...

Looks like similar issues have been around for some time:

Is this a Windows screen that appears while Windows gathers information to resolve the problem? I don't know much about W8, but it this sounds like one of those Windows 8 conflict resolution screens...

Here is some debugging info on this type of error:

    Thanks for the reply AtlBo.

I'm not too sure how to explain, but when the countup on BSOD gets to 100% the screen goes black the the 'Lenovo' logo and busy do-nut appears. It twirls for a few seconds, screen goes black again and same BSOD appears again.

I have looked at other examples but they all seem to be able to access the computer. I cannot get into it at all, even to try booting into safe-mode.

    Jan...

Tempted to recommend downloading the Hiren's boot disk .iso and burn it to disk (on another computer of course). From there you can run a chkdsk without having to go through all of the hassles to determine how to get into Windows to do so. However, Hiren's has a bad reputation here at MGs for using software without consent or for perhaps overstepping the boundaries some when it comes to programmer's rights.

That said, perhaps you could create a Hiren's BD and then just use it to run a chkdsk when you are unable to access Windows. Can't see how there could be anything wrong with doing that. Then again, maybe someone else has another idea here...

Since Hiren's is the only boot CD that will run chkdsk that I know of, I would use it for that, given that MS has made it so difficult to run repairs (acquire installation disk) in this situation...

Thanks very much AltBo, I'm happy to have a go at that but the laptop doesn't have a CD drive so would i be able to do it all from USB? If not, I can buy an external drive.
Is a BD something else or a typo?
Will this just tell me what the problem is, or repair it?
    Really appreciate your help.

YW. Post back how it goes. Hopefully, a chkdsk will resolve the issue. At least it's a start when nothing else will work...
