    Hello All . . .
I'm very grateful to have found this site, and thank you all for the time and effort (and love) you put into it.
My mouse started hanging up, stuttering, as it were, and my browser (Firefox) started acting funny as well. When my bookmarker said "Delete this page" rather than "Bookmark this page" it was clear . . . there was a problem.
My virus program (A2) found only tracking cookies, and when I went looking for solutions, I found this place.
I followed each step of the Run-me-first, and cleaning protocol. It seemed to help a lot, and I gained mucho space on my hard drive. I downloaded, and then ran, the 5 programs listed, with SAS capturing two browser hijackers, and two trojans.
Things are more-or-less back to normal; my mouse still freezes up sometimes, and the system seems overwhelmed periodically for I-don;t-know-what reason.
I have no clue about the logs you need to interpret what's up at this point; I would be Very appreciative if someone could tell me if my system is, in fact, clean or not.
Thank you again for the effort and heart you put into the operation here. And I wonder, what can I do to help the cause?
    Best regards,
    greg

a-squared Anti-Malware 4.5 is not an Anti-virus program...it is what it says it is. An Anti-malware program. You are running without AV protections! You have this:
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8
    but it is not installed!

You are very lucky in that your logs are clean. I suggest you follow the below step:
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi, Tim -
Many thanks for checking the logs, and for taking the time and effort to get back to me.
I just coughed up $40 for the A2, which says:

Keep your PC free from Viruses/Worms, Trojans, Bots, Keyloggers, Dialer and Spyware/Adware with the power of two major scan engines

It indicates on it's website viruses are included, and if that's not the case, I'm due a refund, I think. I got rid of the AVG because it seemed to take up a lot of space, and slowed stuff up.
In any event, I'll follow the recommendations you mailed.
Thanks again, Tim, for all the good stuff you're doing.
    Best regards,
    greg
