I've googled it, but does anyone have a link to a site that is a kind of an idiot's guide to putting a fence up? Including digging and concreting in the posts and all that?

If you're building a fence, get ready for fireworks with your neighbour.

Nothing creates more problems than a fence.

Maybe the fence will stop that pesky dog from digging in the neighbors garden....

    Solving one problem!

For six foot high fence with concrete posts and with timber panels you want the hole to be 18-24 inches deep, fix up a line the length of the fence to keep it true, dig your first hole underneath the line measuring the depth once the is roughly right 'it must be a few inches deeper than the buried depth',drop your first post,DRY mix some concrete in a wheel barrow or board, fill the hole with the dry mix,the post will now sit low,to get the post exactly level with your line you to lift the post, the dry mix will fall underneath raising it until its the right height, now you can sprikle some water onto the dry mix,get long stick or metal bar and start stabbing it into the mix to clear it of voids ' and mix in the water do this for about 5-10 mins, next check with your level to make sure its vertical, the post should stand quite sturdily in the hole

Put your panel in place, this will show you where to dig the next hole, this time level the post with panel in place,Digging all the holes before hand is a bad idea due to size diffences in the panels, repeat 20 times :D
