Hi guys and gals. This is a follow-up to my looking for a bare-bones thread.
I've decided to go to Micro Center and build from scratch.
Here's what I'm leaning towards. Can I get some input?

Xion Solaris ATX Computer Case with 450W Power Supply $51.99
    AMD® Boxed Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ $74.99
    GeForce7050M-M(2.0) nForce 630a AM2+ mATX Motherboard $43.99
    Alpine 64 CPU Cooler (Socket 754, 939, AM2) $17.99
    Sub total $188.96

I have a working budget of about $250 and will still need ram and a hard drive.
This is my 1st time, so please be gentle!

Looks good... if you're not gaming then a video card won't be needed. The 'included-with-the-case-power-supply' should be OK too since you're not adding a power hungry video card. Just remember that when you do add a video card, you will most likely need to upgrade the power supply. You also forgot to add about $100-$150 for an operating system, unless you plan on going with a free Linux distro, or the free Windows 7 Beta from Microsoft.... depending on your needs, figure on a 160gb hard drive as a minimum. It's really surprising how fast they fill up. For memory, figure at least 1gb for XP, 2gb for Vista or Win7...
    :-D

    Good luck!

Thank you for your input. I am planning on using a retail version of XP which I already have and I'm not into gaming.

The hard drive will probably never even see more than 10% usage and I already have 2 SATA dvd burners.

I'll probably start off with a 2gb DDR2 800 pC6400 PNY chip that they have on sale.

If I needed a better motherboard, I would just downgrade the processor a step in order to stay within budget.

Looks good to me as is and you'll love the speed of the dual core, the memory could be halved to 1GB total and you wouldn't know the difference, heck I ran XP on 512MB for years.

Ok, I think I'm there. I upped the budget to $300 and this is what I came up with.

XION Xion Solaris ATX Computer Case with 450W Power Supply $51.99
    AMD AMD® Boxed Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ $74.99
    Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 CPU Cooler (Socket 754, 939, AM2) $17.99
Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB 7,200RPM Serial ATA-300 Hard Drive OEM $34.99
    ECS GeForce7050M-M(2.0) nForce 630a AM2+ mATX Motherboard $43.99
Sony Bulk Optiarc 22x DVD±RW Burner with Dual/Double Layer Support OEM $29.99
PNY Memory Optima 2GB DDR2-800 (PC-6400) DIMM Memory Module $24.99
    Subtotal $283.93

I already have 1 of the Sony SATA Dvd burners that I bought about 2 weeks ago and have a licensed copy of XP.

If there is anyone that thinks that I may have to tweek this a little, please don't hesitate to offer up suggestions.
I will be going out next Saturday to gather up everything.

Thank you for taking the time to check this out and for all your input.

I'm not sure what this means
Is this an OEM with no HSF?(Heat Sink Fan) If this is a retail box then the HSF is included and you can lose the one you specced out. I know it's 'only' $20 but then this is a budget rig. Everything else looks good man.

Meh, timer ran out. Download the manuals now and study up on them before you bring your purchase home. It's always helped me build my rig quicker when I knew what to expect instead of going huh?. Have fun!

if your cpu comes with a fan/heatsink, ditch the artic cooler as said- that particular cooler is much better then the stock one. Also the 5000+ black edition preforms better then the 6000+ and both are around the same price.

I guess this means that I can scrap the fan?

I'll also look into the processor options. Thanks all.

Every time I have purchased an OEM processor they have been about £70 (for and AMD 6000+) and they have had a HSF included.

Yup. You won't need more than the stock HSF with your setup. Just a tip here on handling, don't touch the surface of the CPU or the HSF when assembling as you may reduce the effectiveness of the thermal pad on the HSF/CPU thermal bond.

I guess it's different there man, here's an AMD tri-core from the US. Look at the last line in the specs.

OK, it's not a 6000+ but it makes my point about OEM, nothing is included except for the part itself, at least here. Now back to the regularly scheduled thread.;)

I should clarify that the 5000+ beats the 6000 in that it overclocks better- if thats something you to mess with....

Here's the latest on the build. I'm heading out Friday evening and picking up the following:
    Gigabyte GZ-X2 Black Mid Tower
Coolmax CoolMax 500 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply
MSI - Micro Star International K9N6PGM2-V MCP61 AM2+ mATX Motherboard
AMD AMD® Boxed Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB 7,200RPM Serial ATA-300 Hard Drive OEM
Sony Bulk Optiarc LightScribe 20x DVD±RW Burner with Dual/Double Layer
OCZ Technology Vista Performance 4GB DDR2-800 (PC-6400) DIMM Memory Kit (Two 2GB Memory Modules)

    Sub total $295.00 before taxes

I read some unfavorable reviews on the original case and power supply that I picked out and decided to go in a different direction.

Hopefully these are the last mods before I commit.

Any opinions and/or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.
