    Hello All

I am not at all mobile so use laptops 99% of the time. I do use a desktop although it is a small form factor I use it to myfeed always on media player and control it over my gigabit home network that was setup before I ended up like I am health wise now.

Right to my problem Im wanting to play Elite (which I played back in the 80's on the BBC 32 comp) But the new version is so power hungrey its unreal and to be able to buy a laptop that would run it I would need one with a CPU benchmark upward of 1000 so not cheap by any means and out of my pocket. The desktop I use is getting ready for upgrading as its only a coreduo and now starting to get a little slow as well as the 500gb drive filling up. So now that a laptop is out of the picture Iv been toying with building a PC to use in its place "IF" I could get the game to run over my home network like I run some of the other programmes I do now for which I use UltraVNC to do the running from my laptop or other laptops in the house.

The first question is do you think this would be possible if I had the PC that would run the game?
Second question would be what conponents would be a fair bet to be able to run the game when I would need a CPU benchmark of 9581. The Specs needed to run the game are as follows.

    Windows minimum hardware specification:
    • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8
    • Processor: Quad Core CPU (4 x 2Ghz)
    • Memory: 4 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 260 / ATI 4870HD
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network Broadband Internet Connection
    • Hard Drive: 7 GB available space
    Windows recommended hardware specification:
    • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K Quad Core CPU or better / AMD FX 4350 Quad Core CPU or better
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 770 / AMD Radeon R9 280X
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network Broadband Internet Connection
    • Hard Drive: 7 GB available space

So if anyone has any suggestions or information on what im trying or wanting to do then please feel free to reply as I would be greatful for any input. Thank you

    regards Os.

Which benchmark software is used for that score?

    What's the budget?

That is by using the Passmark software. I was not aware there was differing results that could be gotton? As to price as cheap as it would cost to get to the range I need if that is possible?. So looking at what could be available and at what cost?

    Thank you Os

Do you have a URL for the game, please?

All benchmarks have different test routines, different baselines, etc. They can't be compared directly with a different benchmark from another software. Even benchmarks from the same company can't be compared - unless they're both from the same part of the benchmark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/10120229

The easiest route to a good rig would be an Intel i7, E3, E5 Xeon plus a mid-high end GPU, something like this (same rig as above) would be a good starting point that should last a few years: http://www.passmark.com/baselines/V8/display.php?id=55845362226 but you'd need to look for the current model CPU/motherboard/RAM.

Gaming over the network would mostly depend whether DirectX or OpenGL graphics (whichever one the game uses) would actually be sent/received by the remote access software, it's tricky to control a game over a black screen.
