Hey im wanting to build a pretty powerful and fast computer and i was wonderig what types of things would be best to buy to put it all together. I wouldnt say money is an issue but im not made of it but i am willing to build a computer that i wont have to go and upgrade any time in the near future, if that makes sense. Im looking at doind a multimedia course at SAE in Byron and i would prolly need to have a good computer to do the course, homework/assignments and also just for playing games on etc.
So what do you peoples think i should get??? :) :)

    Skeletor, welcome to majorgeeks!

if you do not want to upgrade for a while, you most certainly want to get a PCI-Express motherboard.

in doing so you have 2 options, a Pentium 4 intel 925x socket LGA-775 based motherboard, or an Athlon64 nForce4 socket 939 based motherboard.

I would recommend the latter from personal preference of AMD over INTEL, but i'd also mantion that AMD currently performs better.

here is a recommendation for a well priced, top of the line system:

-Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe nforce4 motherboard for athlon 64
-Athlon64 socket 939 Winchester core 3200+ or 3500+ depending on how much you want to spend... (theres about a $60 difference between the two. you can also go for the cheaper Newcastle core, as there isnt a performance loss, but winchester runs cooler and theoretically overclocks better.)
-1GB pc3200 or higher RAM, preferably from a brand name such as OCZ, Corsair, Kingston, or Mushkin (note, you do not need higehr than pc3200 unless you intend to overclock a high amount)
-PCI-Express video card. if you are a big gamer, you may want to hunt down an expensive 6800GT PCI-E version, but i would recommend a 6600GT PCI-E, as it is a lot more price conscious (~$200) and still yeilds great performance.
-Power supply-- VERY IMPORTANT. at least 420watt (450 preferably), and if you have the money, I would recommend an OCZ Powerstream or Modstream, they are making GREAT power supplies now for relatively cheap (similar performance usually costs double) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=0
-Hard Drive-- HIGHLY recommend a Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive, as they perform much more quickly than old IDE hard drives. from either Seagate, Western Digital, or Maxtor (who has a new 16mb cache drive which FLIES)

the rest is up to you, case, optical drives, floppy, and the works...

i just built a nearly identitcal system as described above for my little brother, and it totalled around $1200. (i got some good deals).

hope this helps! good luck and we're here if you have any questions.

I wont be building it anytime soon cause i just had to give my sis some money so that she could fly back home from england so i will ahve to wait a bit more now before i start to build the baby but hopefully not too long. :)
