Building new faster PC

Hi All,I am wanting to build a new PC that is much faster,I am wanting to use a AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor and i already have a GIGABYTE GV-R80P256D Radeon X800PRO 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card that i would like to use in a good motherboad if possible,I have CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200),I am not a gamer but want this for speed,I am tired of slow boot ups and slow going in general,I use it for searching and email and selling on auctions.My set up now is a P4 3.2 800 fbs and it is not what i expected,Runs slow like a P2.What i want to know is what mother board would be best with this amd setup or what do you suggest i get.thanks tired of running slow

PS there is nothing wrong with my pc now just want something fast.

 

Your Pentium 4 shouldn't be that slow, and although you may see a small improvement in some applications with an Athlon, there won't be a huge difference.

Certainly not enough to justify the cost of changing.

Personally, I'd be trying to find the problem, but that's up to you.

Also, the best chipset for AMD is the nForce 4 or nForce 4 Ultra, and most boards with this chipset are PCI Xpress and not AGP.

 

I agree with Insomniac. Your system shouldn't be running that slow. Have you checked for spyware?

 

And which operating system are you running?

 

I've got a p4 3.4 gig and an amd 3700 sandiego core they run neck and neck (except in games )definately sounds like an issue with your pc. I'd rule out hardware and software problems on current pc before swapping over.
