    Hi,

First off I am far from a geek when it comes to the new technology that is out. However I had done enough research to have an idea of what is good or bad (for the most part)...

My current rig is a P4 3.00ghz hyperthreading overclocked to 3.24ghz. Also running 3 gigs of ddr400 ram. 300 gb harddrive ... Vista with a new geforce 8800gt 512 mb.

Well I obviously have an older system and a new video card and old ram. So when I play games now it stutters, and overall is just slow.

My question is should I go amd or intel. I have had both and have liked both equally. But as of today which is the best deal.

Here is a link to a local computer shop. I was looking at the amd x2 64bit 5000+ ..Just slightly over $200. Now the board and such that comes with it is it worth it a rip off...?

The other one which I want is the Intel 6600q quad processor and motherboard its 350.00 but again I don't want to get a nice cpu and a crap board. Is this a good deal?

What should I be looking for? http://thrift-king.com/upgradepackage.htm

There's an online company ncix.com that has top notch stuff ...just not sure what I should go with, I am thinking the new processor and motherboard gonna make quiet a bit of difference.

Building completely new, hd, ram everything ... There's an upgrade package which you can get 2gigs of ram for $44 ... I have bought alot of stuff from him in the past just want to make sure I am not getting ripped.

    Thank's. For any imput

Personally I believe the Quad Cores are the bee's knees as far as CPU's go (at the moment) compared to the AMD so would go with the Q6600, but I would definately do a bit more research and compare MOBO's....having a bit of a look at the site, thr stock seems very limited. No Point getting a good CPU and placing it on an average MOBO imho.

A good place to start with MOBO's is:

DFI and Asus have a very good reputation.

RAM I would seriously consider Crucial Ballistix they have a very solid reputation, you can buy direct from them, but used to be re-known for being expensive but with the onset of DDR3 thr DDR2 prices have come right down.

Start with these and then post back.

Your current system seems like it should be plenty fast. If it's slow, there may be something else going on. I don't think your hardware is lacking. Even if it's a single core CPU, it shouldn't be lagging at all...

that's what I thought, I know my stuff is a bit older... I am not sure if my video card might be the culperate I dunno if there's any possibility ... I am running an OLD as dirt sound blaster pci ... not even 5.1 or whatever. . .

Wounder if the card is just to old for the new sounds, and playing c o d4 etc... I tried taking out the vid card and running the onboard. The tech guy said the onboard is better then the card I have but that didn't work so I just disabled it again
