    Greetings All!

Okay, I'm in the process of building a new PC. I know that one thing I don't want to skimp on is the processor, but I'm trying to keep this within our budget as much as possible.

My current system is running a Celeron 1.8GHz with a 128MHz L2 cache and a 400MHz FSB. I was hoping to put a Pentium 4 2.0GHz (or better) with a 533MHz FSB in my new system, but this is proving to be a bit over my budget.

My question is... how much improvement would I see over my current system if I were to use a Pentium 4 2.0GHz (or better) with at least a 256MHz L2 cache and a 400MHz FSB?

    Thanks in advance!

The difference would be minor, not completely noticeable, but again, you can notice the difference. Also, have you considered trying an AMD processor? Very cheap for the performance they give.

Athlon isn't an option as I already have my board and it only supports Intel.

The board in my current system is maxxed out at 512Mb PC2100 DDR RAM. I plan to run PC3200 DDR in my new system. 512Mb at first, but I can max out two slots to 2Gb.

    If I run a P4 with at least 2.0Gb, a 512MHz L2 Cache, 400MHz FSB, and a GeForce 6000 series video card; should I have a respectable gaming machine?

    Thanks again!
