I used to build my computers. Last year i got lazy and bought a HP. Live and learn. Now i need to upgrade my video card, but the HP power supply is only 300w. None of the modern medium or higher end cards will work with that ps. HP will not suggest an alternative PS. They want me to buy a new one.

    1. Can i upgrade the power supply? Or are HP systems really that messed up that i cant change out the ps?

    2. Should i buy a new case, ps and motherboard then swap out the other component from the hp to the new MB?

2a. If so, can i find an SLI motherboard that will support my P4 3.0G HT socket 775 and my 400Mhz DDR2, but yet still be upgradable to a Core 2 duo and better RAM later?

2b. How can i remove the HP partition setup area off the harddrive?

    3. Should i start from scratch, build a new machine and keep the HP for the kids?

    4. Should i buy a complete Gaming PC from a Gaming PC manufacturer, like Digital Storm or whoever(make suggestions)?

The rumour is that Dell, HP, Acer are getting there suppliers to ship them components that are "Wire Specific" to their models.............Now I have not seen this yet myself, so can not say if this is true, and I really doubt that it is as this would cost them more..............I would suggest that you buy a new PSU from a local Computer store with the stipulation that you can return it if it does not work, and if the store gives you the run around, then I would go Online with a reputable seller and stipulate the same. Hope that Helps

I have seen some HP's with very small PSUs. Those you have to buy from HP. But this HP PSU is standard in size and has a 24 pin ATX connector. All the component power connectors are standard as well.
