Built my first...but not powering up

I just built my first computer using a new socket A motherboard and sempron cpu. I was very careful hooking up everything on the motherboard and being careful not to short anything out.

When I was pretty sure I had everything installed correctly I tried to power it up, but all I got was a very brief flicker from the front led, and the cpu fan barely moved. I still get that little flicker and movement, but it will not power up at all. Any suggestions for a very despondent newbie who now wishes he'd just bought a whole intact system? Thank you.

 

Just teething probs mate we all went through them first check all connections,remove any add in cards and harddrives,just use one stick of memory,check the atx 12v is connected '4 pin plug in the middle of the board',if your video card requires power make sure thats also connected

once all these have been checked but you still have no joy,find the cmos reset jumper,put in the clear position for 5 secs,then back to the normal position,if you have trouble finding it,just remove the battery for 5 secs replace and try and boot up

 

If that does'nt work you may need a stronger power supply OR You just have too many thing's running off this power supply you have now (My power supply is using a Dvd/Cd Burner/player/rewriter and 4 fans and my Tv tuner card and it runs fine) If you live in canada Near the Gta Try www.factorydirect.com or www.tigerdirect.ca

 

Also make sure the cpu is seated correctly.

 

Yeah make sure its not earthing itself, and you have properly placed the screws into the case under the board before installing it!

I've done that before!
