LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Citing the fact that nearly no serious accidents occur in bumper-tobumper traffic, the Department of Transportation is adopting a plan to cover America with 10-lane highways that have one-lane bridges and overpasses in each direction every few miles.

"By forcing five lanes of high-speed traffic onto a onelane bridge each way, we will even slash the number of fender benders," boasts D.O.T. planner Dr. Simon Mudohead. "And I guarantee no traffic fatalities -- it's difficult to be killed in a car traveling an average of 5 m.p.h.

"In some places, the backups will have backups, creating perfect 100 percent safety for American drivers. Hey, we're saving lives here!"

 

Sounds somewhat similar to what they were preaching when they implemented the national 55 MPH speed limit, except that was expected to SAVE gasoline.

But I thought it was a joke when they did the 55 MPH national speed limit. Never underestimate the power of government stupidity.
