Burn 1GB ISO to 700MB CD!

Hello all!

I have this Microsoft Office 2003 Professional which I converted to an ISO image using UltraISO

I noticed that the size of the ISO file is larger than 1GB, but the CD is only 700MB!

How did they do it? I am really interested in knowing this.

Ultra Iso has 6 different compression levels and when you insert a disk it searches for the best format for the disk volume. (clever huh)

 

Microsoft had a bunch of compressed CAB files on the Office install CD. That's how they did it. They have protection schemes on the CD to prevent people from doing what you tried to do. You could burn it to a DVD I guess.

 

Disk to disk copy feature on Nero/other CD burning software won't work?

 

Yes my friend it will work, but this is not the problem. I need to edit some stuff on the CD, this is why I figured that by making an ISO, loading it inside UltraISO and editing it, saving it and then reburning it will solve the problem, but as I said, when the ISO is created, its size is equal to the actual size of the files on it, not the size of the CD which is 700MB.

 

I mentioned Office as a worldwide example, I already have a legal copy for my self. The CD I'm trying to copy is a personal CD that contains stuff that I want to edit and delete. I know who prepared it but I can't contact him.

And by the way I don't trust Microsoft's protection schemes because there are illegal copies of the Windows OS itself. So if people could copy this they can copy everything.
