I recently dragged and dropped some picture files onto my CD-R that I formatted. I was able to click on the files to make sure they were transferred, then deleted (shift-Del) the original files on my laptop. I went ejected the disk, which prompted the finalization.

Now when I try to get back in the disk, it shows that there is data on the disk using the properties, but I cannot view any data. I'm assuming the finalization of the disk did not work. It's funny how I can see there is data, but can't see the data. Anyone know of how I can fix this?

Has anyone seen a freeware or shareware program on here to recover the files I deleted?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "formatted" in reference to a CDR. Anyway- since the original files were deleted, you can try a recovery program to get them back. As long as new data written to the PC has been kept to a minimum, there's a good chance that the files have not been over-written and therefore they should be recoverable. If you decide to try this, you MUST recover the pictures to an external storage device or flash drive, and it's probably best to use a data recovery program that doesn't require installation. Installing a program might over-write the pictures. I have used a free easy-to-use program called Restoration many times to successfully recover accidentally deleted files, give it a shot. You can also try using a similar recovery program to try to read the pictures from the CD. There are many picture recovery programs available but it seems most are aimed at recovering pictures from flash media, or digital 'film' sticks. I haven't had much experience with those types of programs so I don't know how they work with CDs. Take a look through the Major Geeks data recovery downloads and maybe look at the Major Geeks drive utilities downloads also. I was also thinking that maybe running a CD copy program might work; it would copy the data from the disc and write to another disc and would close out the copy correctly.... it's something to check out anyway....

    Good luck! Keep us posted!
