Does it show up in Device Manager?

    Win XP
    It does not show up
Yes, it powers up, as it's external power
I'm not aware of a safe mode for it

    Thanks

If it doesn't show up in Device Manager, then Windows doesnt detect it.

    What is the exact model?

Ok, do you get any response at all from windows by unplugging it, plugging it back in?

By the way, if you have MS messenger, or yahoo mess, we could chat. Maybe it would be easier.
    Thanks

I'll have to pick up where we left off later.

usb 2.0 external writers are such a pain, and without it showing up in Device Mangler...that just makes its 10x harder.

Give this a shot, and look carefully for your drive under dev manager:

 Have you tried it with another pc? Tried another USB cable? I guess the drive could also be DOA. Best of luck.

You must check if it is compatible with your computer. What OS do you use? And also, try going to the add new device icon in your control panel if you have windows.

It sounds like it's defective you might try returning to to where you bought it and exchange it and try the 2nd one.
