Burning a Dual Layer

    Hi all.
    Is it possible to burn a prog/movie onto a dual layer disc using a non dual layer drive?
    I know it wont play it but I have a d/l player connected to my tv and was wondering if my single layer pc burner would burn the data to watch on the d/l player.
    Or is it the other way around, a single layer burner will play dual layer but not burn dual layer, now i'm really confused!!!
