im going to install it on another machine. i have the linux iso that i want downloaded but the size is 1.2gb and the cd's i have are only 700mb.
i have noticed that dvd's hold more but i dont know if i can use a blank dvd in my cd burner to burn the iso as i dont have a dvd burner.

You can't burn DVD's in a CD burner. Try and find a version of the linux you want that will fit on a CD or create a bootable flash drive. Your computer must have the capability to boot from a USB though. What version of linux are you using and do you have a flash drive that you can use?

i downloaded zorin 5.2. and at this time i do not have a flash drive.
i will be putting this on a hp pavilion a305w with win xp home.
im not sure if that machine can boot from usb or not as its not hooked up and running at the moment.
i plan on removing windows completely when i can get the linux installed

Hold on a minute. I always tell people to try a live version BEFORE you install linux.
Some distros will not like certain hardware. You need to find out if you have things like audio, video and internet connection before you wipe windows off.
