Buying a new System

Hi, I'm new here and going to buy a new system for Music/Gaming and schoolwork.

My friend said that he will build my computer if i get all the necessary parts

I don't need a hardrive or a printer.

The max price I can go to is 1600, Canadian Dollars.
I'm thinking Nvidia Graphics card ( Don't know which model )
AMD Processor ( prefer these to intel )
And I'd like to be able to run World of Warcraft, Half life 2.. Doom 3 etc. More than 13 FPS ( 4 when im recording a video ).

Just kidding, for 1,300$ you can get a really good build.

Probably 7800GT , x-fi, a64 3400+ and 1GB ram which would set you for a good time.

 

Can you explain those? I'm a noob

X-fi = sound card (brand new)

7800GT = nvidia card, good high end card and good price

a64 = amd 64bit cores, very good price and high performance.

1 more quick question, what about a motherboard?

 

go for a good stable motherboard like Asus A8N, noob friendly but you can tweak it tons if you need to. Also I wouldnt recommend buying it from a shop place, search for parts online, will be much cheaper.

If this is your or your friends first time, then buying from a local shop is better than buying online, as you can easily return or swap items.

 

It's not my friends first time but as for me I'm a noob.
I'm new to OC'ing too
