    Im looking at new egg currently and im confused as to which amd 64 i want;

    the 1mb cache; which is always the better choice vs 512kb is this one

    the 512kb one im looking at is

    i know the 939pins mobo support dual chan; so really im just wondering about the 754.

    The top link is socket 754; does it support dual chan ddr? currently have 1gb of ddr3500 and would like for my new processor/mobo combo to support the dual chan for performance.

    Any recommendations?

    Almost forgot; if your able to recommend a board not to go over 150$ please feel free to chip in info :) Im looking for a performance/stability board not a generic/inexpensive one.

    As far as I know, the Socket 754 processors do not support dual channel. Which, I'm guessing would make a bigger difference than the extra cache.

    you would think so, and perhaps in the future it will, but with HyperTransport and AMD's dedication to quality, current benchmarks prove dual channel to not be a sizable improvement over single channel for AMD64 performance. The 1mb cache definitely helps though.

    for the socket 754's you're reffering to the clawhammer and newcastle cores with the different amounts of L2 cache... however the one with less cache is actually clocked higher, making up for any loss in performance.

    those are perfectly good chips, but the Winchester 3000+ and 3200+ are now available (or will be in the next few days) at Monarch Computer for $200 and $255 respectively.

    those are the 939 versions that you cuold use in an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum ($130) for a great combo that is highly upgradeable, and supports dual channel ram.

    k i guess im looking @ AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 512K 90nm (939) (ETA 10/08) ? what speed does it run clocked and why do i want to pay the extra 50$(+50$ for heatsink + fan) slide on it for the core?
