Is this a good laptop and deal from Dell? I thought it was..comments on this laptop?

It will be used for doing website editing, minor gaming, office and internet mainly. I'm not real familiar with the new Core Duo but I was told this is a pretty fast one.

If it was me and it isn't I would wait awhile till the Core2 duo Dells drop a bit more, the've drop about $800 in the last month or so. From what I have read the Core2 Duo smokes the Core Duo Proc. Thats my $0.02 worth Good Luck with the new Comp.

Thats still a Centrino Core Duo Proc, not a Core 2 Duo proc, but it does have a bit more zip than the previous one, but like I said before from what I have read it the Core2 Duo wipes the Core Duo hands down now and for the future.

Side Note:- Interesting that the lead says Core 2 Duo, but the Proc Branding says Core Duo, guys gotta be careful now a days. Good Luck BJ and remember what ever you choose, it works for you, doesn't really matter what the rest think. There is some interesting posts in "Hardware" about the procs and what they can do, you might want to post this question there.

PS:- You and the gang in Malware are doing a great job, hope I never have to post there, but am glad you guys are there, keep up the great work

I'm new to these Core Dro Processors, what do I need to look for in a Core Duo? I want the fastest or best one but I'm not sure which one is the best of the Core Duos.

This CPU, isn't this a fast CPU? Like I said I'm new to these Core Duos so I know nothing about them. I do however want the fastest. I assume the Proc is like the Celeron and the Core 2 is like the Pentium 4?

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB)

Thanks, I enjoy being able to help out others.

If it will help you any...I did a quick and brief bit of research and thought you might want to check out the couple of PDFs on the link below, that might give you a little more insight and comparison info!!

I was going to attatch them to this post, but they were too big, so the one that says prod_brief is supposedly for the desktop processors (didn't read much of it!!) and the one that says mobile_prod_brief is apparently their mobile version...like I said...it was quick and brief research, but I thought I would throw it at you anyway, incase you wanted to do a little reading, and arm thyself with some more knowledge!!:) :)

An inch and a half is not going to make that much difference.....trust me.

I think I'm going with the 17" because I like big screens and it's really not all that big. My friend got the XPS laptop and it's freakin' awesome but I'm not paying over $3000 for a laptop.

Most 17" laptops come with an included numeric keypad, in the keyboard layout.
One of the advantages, in that you do not need an external keyboard.
I settled on a 15.4" screen as the 17" screen combo was too bulky for me.
    Different strokes for different folks.

One last thing, keep well away from Duo-cores. I don't know about Duo-2-Cores, but they've gotta be better than Duo-cores.

I once ran a CPU ID program on my Toshiba Tecra A7 duo-core and it identified the CPU as a P3 (based on?), so it would be really interesting to find out what the CPU really is. Best of luck, in your choice. Bazza

Your thread reminded me of the olden days (80's and 90's when we used to have a program called the Landmark Speed test, that rated CPU's in order of fastest to slowest, and showed where your CPU rated in relation to the others listed.

I just did a google search on Landmark Speed test and came up with

Believe you me, a 15.4 is WAY bigger than a 14".

    17" just looks stupid.
