Yes, this is not a link for the experienced geek. But someone out there might benefit from it, so take a look!

This is my guide to the Best New Desktop Computers.

Experienced geeks might be amused to see the omission of several brands. How can I improve this guide? What is your favorite (pre-built) desktop?

    Thanks!

If somebody absolutely has to buy an off-the-shelf desktop PC, my advice is to look at business-grade (Vostro) series Dells.

Generally, the business-grade systems have better components and sometimes offer tech support in your home country (not India).

The logic on this is based on the fact IT directors in larger businesses cannot put up with downtime or tech support agents who can barely speak English (or the native language in a given country). If Dell (or any other mfr.) ships a bunch of unreliable PCs to a business, it may be the last order that company ever places with them.

Finally, I am not a fan of all-in-one desktop PCs. A separate tower has room for far more future upgrades and is usually easier to fix if something goes wrong.

On a similar note, but a same idea, I would only buy ZT Systems branded machines if I were to buy off the shelf. They are business grade workstations and the only (and I do mean only) bloat they have is Symantec Security.

They don't use ANY proprietary parts. They even gave me the motherboard booklet with the documentation. They also don't void your warranty if you crack open the case.

    Correct your Apple information ;)

The Mini is a better buy than most the iMacs and they ship with Mountain Lion, not Lion :)
