I was wondering if anyone knows how to create a c program, or another language thats just the only one i know, that is able to understand when an instant message is recieved from any user, i eventually want to send a voltage out of a parrallel port, but i already found code for that just need the link inbetween. thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how possible this is - maybe someone else can jump in and contradict me if I'm wrong but...

The way I reason you are going to be able to do this is to write an app that will listen to the traffic going through the ports that the IM programs are using... looking for the traffic patterns that indicate a message has been sent.
The problem is that the ports are going to be locked by the IM client so writing a program to listen on those ports is going to be hard... if not impossible. At least from that approach.

I don't know how the internal gubbins of AIM work but I recall reading that MSN Messenger is not as simple as listening for a message like I mentioned above - the server in the middle acts as a go-between and establishes the connections between the clients... Its not a simple message getting sent down the wire to your machine...

Off the top of my head I'm not sure if what you're wanting is possible... but hopefully this'll get the ball rolling for someone else to jump in and tell me I'm wrong and how you can do it... I'd certainly be interested to know...

Try searching memory, and just pulling the offsets for active window right out of AIM's memory. At least that is why I would try to do.
