C:\Programs\Dell pops up

Discussion in 'Malware Help (A Specialist Will Reply)' started by Help-is-needed-quickly, Oct 30, 2006.

  1. Hi
I have posted several new threads in here, and been very satisfied with the answers Ive been getting. However now a new problem has occoured:
This time, whenever I power up my Dell Precision M20 laptop, the first folder two be showed on the desktop is: C:\Programs\Dell
(and all its contents are to be seen)

It happens only when starting the PC, not when waking up from standby or hibernation.

    Whats going on?

Another problem Ive had for months now is that Windows Security Center tells me over and over that Im not protected: dont have any antivirus-programe installed, and no firewall.

I run AVG antivirus (the free version)
and Zone Alarm Pro (licenced version)
In addition to the firewall problem I have realised that the WinXP firewall is impossible to enter. It is turned off, but cannot be turned on. This message is then showing:
    "WINDOWS FIREWALL
Windows can not show the configuration for Windows Firewall of an unexplainable reason" This is when hitting the Win firewall icon in the control panal. It can not be activated.

Still Im experiencing that my computer is slipping behind, and that the CPU-usage is exeeding normal standards. I have done many of your recom. earlier with installing Spybot, Panda, CCcleaner, HijackThis, etc.

I have even tried with a few other programs, that have cleaned up my comp's reg. and other win-files.

Could someone please assist me here, cause Im in a puzzle here.

Follow your recom. on using HJT, (which didnt find any of the lines listed.)
Furthermore SmitRem wasnt able to launch (the bat file, showed and then closed again) .

Could someone help me out here.l ?

Still having problems on this ..

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifAfter doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif In your next post, please make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order:
    • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs![/FONT]
