I tried looking at the "similar threads" listed. If they answered my question, I didn't understand, so if I'm asking a question that's been answered, I'm sorry.
When I scan with Avast I get a "virus" titled C:/windows/system32/IEDFix.exe
but Avast can't seem to remove it. Is it a virus or a windows program? If it's a virus, how do I remove it?
Thanks in advance! You have a fantastic site and I've used it quite a lot for information and downloads.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

IEDFix.exe is from SmitFraudFix which you probably ran at some point in time. It is not malware. You can simply delete this file and other files that SmitFraudFix put in your system32 folder. For example all of the below may be found:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmp.reg
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\VCCLSID.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\SrchSTS.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\VACFix.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEDFix.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEDFix.C.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\404Fix.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Process.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dumphive.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\WS2Fix.exe
