C:\WINDOWS\taskmgr.exe error at startup

    My father-in-laws computer is having this issue at startup:

    "Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\taskmgr.exe '. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."


    I have HJT installed on his computer just need some advice on how to fix this.

    any help would be appreciated. I am also missing the "all programs" button in the "START" menu.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    Note: If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    I apologize. It just gets frustrating when you go through all the steps and get nothing while seeing your post fall to 2+ pages.

    I understand your frustration....but there are only two of us who do this and it is a voluntary task ( as in we have wives and lives, well, at least one of those). Have patience and you will be helped.

    It would have saved much time had you run the Read and Run First instructions to begin with and attached the logs. :)
