I tried to install AdAware on a customer's computer, and when it went through it's installation process and start to update it's virus definitions, the computer shut itself off and rebooted, after seeing windows trying to load It came up with that error that's posted in the message topic.

I can boot up in safe mode, where I tried and delete the Adaware, but Windows Installer is not active so it will not let me.

Tried Restoring to an earlier time to no avail.

Saw in MSConfig the malware brastk, unchecked it only to find it regenerated itself back into the startup

I went through every step on this site to try and rid myself of the malware i.e. brastk, beep.sys, and something else. I used CCleaner, and SpyBot, on all the user accounts..

Then I went and toggled system restore, disabling it not realizing it only works when you are in the OS when you want to REenable. So now the restore option is definitely out until I get back into XP.

There is no boot cd, there is no other cds available. It's a Toshiba w/ WINXP SP3.

Reboot out of Safe Mode, and it still shows me that beautiful blue screen..

Any other ideas? If I can just get back into WINXP I can fix this, but I don't what to do from here..

    PLease help me.. :(

That error was caused by a registry issue more than likely. Try to follow as many steps in the below instructions as possible and then attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
