I use Charter Cable for my Internet connection. They guarantee 12M of connection. My laptop gets 11 (acceptable) my desk top get 5 (unacceptable. Both use wireless to connect. I have a 150Mbps Micro Wireless N USB Adapter and a Belkin G router. Where should I start to look regarding the proper setting for my desk top?

I have direct wired the desktop to the modem with no change.:-o

Your desktop is using the usb device? How old is the desktop, what operating system is it, do you have the device on the front of the back of the computer?

Windows XP wit the Media Edition.
I am using a wireless noid in the USB port to connect.
Router, modem, desk top and laptop are all within 6 feet of each other with no obstructions.
Modem and router are on top shelf above EVERYTHING in the room.

I was going to ask again if the usb was plugged into the rear usb ports, it does make a difference, especially on the older systems.

Since you said that hard wiring it didn't make any difference, it sounds like your older hardware just can't go any faster.

It's part of the argument that I have with people who get 20Mbps connections for their one mid-level, 4 year old XP. Computer isn't going to keep up. It seems that your PC has reached it max cruising speed with it's current configuration.
