Campaign To Eliminate the Edit Time Limit Thread

I'm constantly getting caught by the Edit Time Limit on this forum. Most of the techie forums I frequent do not use the Edit Time Limit and have no problems. So let's get rid of the darned thing here! Vote in the Poll.

More seriously, don't you think this is a silly request? Tim is nice enough to put up a site like this and your complaint is petty.

How much editing do you need to make? Mods/Admin can delete posts if they are that bad.

In the upper right if I recall is the report button that will notify the proper mod/admin that you need help.

I agree, remove the timer so that people can start flame wars, then go back and edit it later to remove all proof.

Thats why they are there. Unfortunately there are a lot of jerks on the internet and make such evils necessary.

In any event, this is no way to get such things changed. Email the owners

What about a compromise? Allow posters to edit their thread as long as no-one else has added a new post. Would this be simple to set up? If not, set post time limit to 5 minutes, or better still 10 minutes. Bazza

I can see that everyone here writes perfect posts every time and never needs to do a correction OR never goes away and finds relevant material to add to their post which would not make as much sense posted in another post separated from the first.
. As far as I can tell there is no argument for the edit limit that has any effect on the thread at all. More than likely it is just a default that wasn't properly changed when the forum was set up. I guess it was never considered that there would be significant, thoughtful usage of the forums here anyway. Even the section titles weren't carefully thought out.

The time limit is there on puropse, not on accident.

Like I said, this isn't the way to get things changed. Email the owners. Doesn't matter if every active member on the forum wanted it changed. If the owners decided they don't want that, then it won't change. No poll will make a difference.

Writes perfect? LOL, no one I know...use one of the free browser plug-ins for spell check...type it in word or open office (free) and use spell check/grammar checks then copy/paste it into your post. Or better yet, make sure you actually read the thread in it's entirety, type out your post thoughtfully and proof read it to make sure you didn't make a mistake before hitting the submit button. Whoda thunk it?

As for default settings and as far as you can tell...you tell wrong. The edit time is not at the default setting. It was specifically set for 5 minutes due to multiple problems and far to many members abusing the edit option. I don't know why I wated my time and bothered to post this. You obviously have issues with multiple areas of the forum so why are you even here?

 

I have never made any typos or grammar errors in posts I never posted either!

Well, I'm one of the few that often wishes I had more time to edit. I don't think it has to be for this long period of time, but I would like at least 15 minutes. Sometimes my creative juices get flowing after I've posted, and in the middle of editing, I run out of time. It irks me, but it's not the most impotant thing.

 

We'll just leave that to speculation!

I think Star may have missed this one. What is the plural of forum? According to dictionary.com it is either fora or forums: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=forum Who marks the teacher's marks? The teaching equivalent of "Qui custodiet ipses custodes?".

Sorry, this had nothing to do with the edit time limit.

Curiously, politicians want to change the voting system when they are out of government, but once in, never implement the change! Who wants to vote against something that put them there in the first place.
